My 2 Week Protective Styling

Image
Hey Guys! So, remember in my Low Manipulation post I had said that I was going to leave my hair alone and do a protective style? As you know, my version of protective styling was doing flat twist and buns that can last at least up to 3 days without redoing my hair. However leaving a style in my hair for longer than 3 days was unheard for me because my hair gets frizzy quite easily. Well I did not comb my hair for 2 weeks and I love it. Protective Style: Roll, Tuck and Pin Updo with Twists I washed, Conditioned and wore my hair stretched in a bun to air dry. When my hair was about 80-90% dry, I moisturized it then did small twists my hair. I believe it took me the entire episode of So You Think You Can Dance to finish. Lol! My hair is on the thin side so wearing twists hanging don't  work out too well for me; so that was not even an option. So, I roll tuck and pinned the twist and BOOM - It was Hot . I rocked this style for a serious week and a half. All I

7 HERBAL HAIR & SCALP RINSES FOR NATURAL HAIR

Image
Check out this lovely article from Kiki of RockItNaptural Nappturals, there are so many factors out there that contribute to unhealthy hair such as the environment, heat, dry indoor air, hair dyes, shampoos, and hair styling products. All of which can cause problems for your hair such as breakage, split ends, stunted growth, dry and brittle hair. A hair rinse is a very inexpensive way to treat your hair with some TLC and not to mention, many of the items your have in your kitchen work well as a hair rinse. A hair rinse is not only highly beneficial for hair but also for the scalp. A natural hair and scalp rinse can help with the circulation of the scalp, which also aids in the stimulation of the hair follicle. Your scalp is what supplies the hair with protein and other nutrients.Of course, this helps stimulate the hair for growth and some have the potential to help repair scalp disorders such as dandruff, itchy or flaky scalp and stunted hair growth. Here are 8 of my favori

Natural Hair Regimen (Updated)

Image
As you continue on your hair journey you will realize that your natural hair regimen tend to change from time to time. We bloggers stress that you should find a system and stick to it. But, while this is true we are not prisoners to our hair care routine. The basics should be the same but you can experiment. Its your hair and journey after all isn't it? Enjoy it! Ok, let me share my hair care regimen with you (in a nutshell) - lol! This is what I do and what works for me. You do not have to do this but you should experiment and see what work for you. Pre-poo (every two weeks): I like oils that are easily absorbed into dry hair; so, I opt for coconut oil. Also, honey is one of my favorite natural humectants and preservative. I know you are not to use humectants in dry winter but all year round honey is good to me. Hence why I stress 'know what your hair needs'. Prepare (measure according to length of hair): Coconut oil Honey Chea

Hey Guys! Check out this blog feature on the beautiful naturalista  Alisa from CoilyLocks Introduce yourself: My name is Alisha and I’m the mother of an 11 year old and little mini diva that will be turning 4 at the end of the month!  I’ve been married for 12 years and I’m also the creator of COILY LOCKS. http://www.coilylocks.com What made you decide to go natural? I actually went natural 12 years ago before I got married to save money. This time around I did it to show my oldest daughter that she can be beautiful with her natural curls and it was pretty hard to emphasize that to her when I was walking around with relaxed, bone straight hair.  Did you Big Chop or did you Transition and When? I’ve always gone between shoulder length and short pixie cuts so big chopping was no problem for me.  I wore kinky twist braids in my hair for about 3 months and as soon as I took them out I ran right to get my hair cut. This was November 15, 2011.  I take my hat off to anyone tha
