Image
Adding Oil Rinsing To Your Natural Hair Regimen Do you want to spruce up your Natural Hair Regimen? Do you want to try something new? Well I got just the thing. Try  Adding Oil Rinsing To Your Natural Hair Regimen. Recently I have been experimenting with oil rinsing and have now decided to add it to my natural hair regimen. I have tried it 2 ways and absolutely love it. So, what on earth is oil rinsing? Oil rinsing is where you add a lot of oil to your wet hair after cleansing and rinsing it off with water. My experience with oil rinsing: I have tried it in 2 different variations. Below I list how I did each method and my thoughts on each. I first tried it with the clear castor oil. I haven't been using this oil in a while so why not experiment with it right? I shampooed and conditioned my hair, and then I added the castor oil. Seeing that it was my first time I did not know what to expect but I instantly realize how supple my hair was. Soft and lovely. Ca

The Natural Hair Movement will be the Death of the Relaxer

Image
The Slow Death of the Relaxer Once upon a time, price wasn’t even a factor when it came to buying hair relaxers. If Dark and Lovely increased their boxed relaxers from $5 to $10, we would be mad about the price, but still buy it - frowned face and all. The straighter it could get our hair; the better. The Relaxer/Perm sales were always at a stable high. That is now a thing of the past. As the Natural Hair Movement gets stronger, Black hair care companies are reporting declining sales on relaxers and texturizers. More women are now seeking knowledge on how to care for their hair in its natural state, rather than change it. If you take a look on the shelves of Wal-Mart and beauty stores, relaxers are no longer as plentiful, or as expensive as they once were. I am sure that the black hair salons do not like the Natural Hair Movement at all. Mintel, a research company, publicized a report that really caught my attention. They looked at the Black Hair Care market and the d

Transitioning Hair Styles

Check out this lovely guest post from  KinkyCoilyTiki , Founder of Bold n’ Beautiful, Naturally!™  Transitioning Hair Styles  There are various styles that can compliment you on your journey from relaxed to natural. The challenge is working with two textures and getting the two textures to blend. Many natural’s struggle with finding the perfect style to compliment both tresses. To help assist in the process, always find a style that suits you to your liking, and when in doubt, if being creative and opting to other styles doesn’t work for you, simply stick with what you know works best. For instance, corn rows in the top with a braid out in the back! OR you can also create several styles from the initial style. For instance, you can first rock a flat

Horseback Riding at Bronx Equestrian Center

Image
Few weeks ago I decided to put my big girl panties on and try horseback riding. I went to the Bronx Equestrian Center with a group of lovely girls who - for the most part - was also trying horseback riding for the first time. We were hoping for a fun filled adventurous day. Being a first time rider, I was quite scared along with the girls. The staff at The Bronx Equestrian Center has the worst customer service I have ever seen. First, they rushed us onto the horses even though we are first timers. The girls who did not get onto their  horse as quickly as the staff would like, was yelled at.  According to the staff, 'they have a group coming after us and we are holding up time'.  One of the girls did not get on a horse and demanded her money back. I don't know if they are racist or what but I did not feel comfortable.  However we were already there so we carried on with the trail ride. The horses were quite calm and directing them was easy as they already k

Is Natural Hair For You?

Image
Hey Loves!  So, I have to talk to you guys about something. Last week while running to get some coffee in Grand Central, I was stopped by a really gorgeous black woman. She told told me how pretty my afro was and sent me blushing to natural hair heaven . UNTIL.......she said "Natural looks so great on you but I couldn't go natural'. Now I had a problem with that comment. I had to stop her from continuing and ask her "does your hair grow?" She looked at me like I was crazy and asked what I meant. So I simply repeated my question. Softly she said "yes". So I asked "So if natural hair grows from your scalp then why is it NOT FOR YOU?" I know I gave her something to go home and think about it. I sure did. I am not the only one who have heard women say natural hair is not for them. What do you girls think about that?
